FLOOD INSURANCE ALERT
As you may or may not have heard, the authority of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to issue flood insurance contracts under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) lapsed on March 28, 2010. Until the NFIP is reauthorized by Congress, new policies may not be issued, and existing policies may not be increased or renewed. The lapse will most likely continue until at least April 12th when Congress is back in session.
THIS MEANS THAT, IF YOU HAVE ARE PURCHASING A HOME THAT NEEDS FLOOD INSURANCE AND DONT HAVE THE POLICY IN PLACE YET, TYOUR CLOSING WILL HAVE TO BE PUT OFF UNTIL AFTER CONGRESS REAPPROVES THE FLOOD PROGRAM.
